Early Alert for Instructors
Columbia College Instructors,
You are encouraged to use the Early Alert automated system to provide students with early notification when they are not meeting course expectations. This Early Alert notification is sent through the student e-mail system. It is important to send out the notification as early as possible so that the student can put into action strategies to remediate the situation. The goal is a positive academic outcome for the student.
When you go into Early Alert, you will be able to go to your class roster, pull up the student’s name, and create an Early Alert notice that is specifically for that student. You will be able identify “Concerns” – areas that need improvement. When “Concerns” are identified, the system notifies the student to seek help from the recommended “Resources” such as the instructor, the counselor, and the Academic Achievement Center. It is the students’ responsibility to seek out those resources. When you meet with a student, it is important to satisfy the Early Alert.
