It is flu season and we want to help you stay healthy! Being informed is a good start. This year flu season is unique in that TWO flu viruses will be circulation along with the usual array of general cold viruses. Because of this more people are expected to get sick. The two flu viruses are the H1N1 (or Swine Flu) and the Seasonal flu. H1N1 flu is here now. Seasonal flu is expected around November. H1N1 causes the same illness as the seasonal flu, but we will be watching the H1N1 virus closely as it has the potential to lead to more serious illness. The symptoms of both viruses are the same: FEVER, SORE THROAT, COUGH, RUNNY NOSE, HEADACHE, and sometimes stomach upset. We want you to take good care of yourselves and we are counting on YOUR HELP to keep these viruses from spreading HOW TO STAY HEALTHY AND AVOID SPREADING THE FLU: ¨ Practice good hand hygiene Video ¨ Practice respiratory etiquette Video ¨ STAY HOME if you are sick for at least 24 hours after your temperature is under 100 degrees ¨ Consider getting the H1N1 and Seasonal flu vaccine - both will be available on campus about mid-October MORE INFO:PEP (Pandemic Education and Preparation) |
