Attending:  Gary Mendenhall, Don Smith, Fred Grolle, Kelley Marshall, Wendy Link, Cass Larkin, Ida Ponder, Melissa Colon

1.  ITC Report – Melissa Colon

New computers have been installed, and Fred Grolle has removed the DSPS equipment from ITC.

2.  Distance Education Report – Melissa Colon

Melissa has concerns regarding the cost and who will be maintaining the Help Desk over summer.  She is currently the sole WebCT administrator at Columbia.  She is working towards gaining the same administrative privileges as her counterpart at MJC. Melissa stressed the need for a distance education coordinator position at Columbia.  Dr. Joan Smith met recently with the Distance Education Committee.  She proposed that if the D.E. Committee is willing to go to the next level, she will assist them by writing grants, locating other resources, etc. which would provide for a full-time distance education coordinator position.  The Distance Education Committee plans to accept her offer of assistance.

3.  Web Focus Group Report

Gary will ask Marty to report to the Committee at the next meeting with a current status of the possibility of Columbia College tagging onto MJC website redesign.

NEEDED ACTION:  Gary will ask Marty to report on MJC’s web redesign and Columbia’s related options.

4.  Training for Summer 2007 and Fall 2007

The training plan for summer is moving forward.  Information regarding the training sessions will be disseminated soon to faculty and staff via email and mailboxes.

5.  Technology Plan and Summary of Recommendations

It has previously been determined by the Technology Committee that:

(1.) A complete Technology Plan and Summary of Recommendations document is to be revised every other year and presented to the College Council.

(2.) Only the Summary of Recommendations would be reviewed and progress reported to College Council in the alternate year.

History/Timelines (Past, current and future) until next revised:

  • 04/05FY - The first Technology Plan and Summary of Recommendations was presented in Fall 2004.
  • 05/06FY – Only the Summary of Recommendations was reviewed and progress reported to College Council.
  • 06/07FY - Currently the complete Technology Plan and Summary of Recommendations is once again in the process of being completely revised.  The entire document will be forwarded to College Council for review.
  • 07/08FY – Next fiscal year, only the Summary of Recommendations will be reviewed by Committee, any progress noted and then presented to College Council.
  • 08/09FY - The entire Technology Plan and Summary of Recommendations will be revised.  Upon completion the document is to be presented to College Council.

NEEDED ACTION:  Gary will send an email to committee members who are unable to regularly attend Technology Committee meetings to remind them we are currently in the process of updating the Technology Plan and would appreciate their input.

The current Technology Plan and Summary of Recommendations undergoing revision will be reviewed by the Committee before the document is presented to the College Council.  The Technology Committee will meet the Thursday before College Council to review and finalize the revision.
